Have you ever had a relative or friend who spends endless words talking about how irritating it is that someone is always the same way about something: (Is always late, promises to do something then doesn’t, always phones too late at night, drives me crazy with her laugh, doesn’t talk to you at a family dinner, etc.) The word “always” usually means that the behavior of that person is unlikely to change.
Instead of revving up your internal engines just say, “That’s different!” (SW #1) and let it go. Think of it as, “That’s their part in our play. That wasn’t even close to their Oscar performance! And…I’m only responsible for my part in our play!”
One thing you can’t change is the past. Sometimes, we drag our past hurts, losses, and experiences with us wherever we go. We impede the course of our lives by hanging on to things we can’t change. And to hang on to past failures is silly because you are not the same person who created those memories of failure.
The past has passed; leave it behind you and expect a different future.
