#13: SHIPS DON’T SINK BECAUSE OF THE WATER THAT’S AROUND THEM; SHIPS SINK BECAUSE OF THE WATER THAT GETS IN THEM. DON’T LET WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND YOU GET INSIDE YOU AND WEIGH YOU DOWN.

If you are a sponge, taking in every criticism, piece of negativity around you, you will surely drown. Who you really are gets lost in the fear of not being accepted, not fitting in to the norm. So we whittle away at our sense of self esteem until we live in a world of doubt, drama and distrust.

Self esteem is how you feel about the picture you have of yourself. A person with good self esteem has two legs upon which to stand: One is lovable (loved no matter what I do)–and one leg is capable (able to do something well.)

A feels -lovable person knows that everyone sees him/her through the lens of their life. Their judgment is about them! If someone is angry, the “lovable” person thinks of themselves as swiss cheese and visualizes the unkind words going through the holes in the cheese. My favorite practice is to think, “That was different!” (SW#1) And then I let it go.

A capable persons realizes that keeping going, even in tough times, is doing something well.

Capable people do not compete or compare themselves with others. They do the best they can in any situation, and that best is good enough!

To be in the world yet not of it! Take in the goodness around you! Let the negatives destroy themselves! Remember, this is YOUR journey; you live inside of you, so don’t let anyone else tell you who you are. Stop feeding your consciousness with negativity. Count your blessings! Be YOU!
