Due to the increased use of cell phones and other media contraptions, we are living on an over-crowded planet that is totally disconnected. A friend texted me when I was home with a cold. I told her how I felt which was crummy—and she had no idea how crummy because she didn’t hear my froggy voice.
I have texted back and forth with a friend a dozen times, clarifying the original message, when a phone call would have taken two minutes—and felt so much more connected.
I can’t be the only one who has gotten into a scuffle with someone over a misinterpreted text message.
Children don’t sit down and chat with their families, so they don’t learn how to chat, how to be kind with your words, how to listen, how to communicate.
Spend time with each other; spend time talking to your children, have them call a grandparent and talk to them, have them sit down together and talk about their lives. Call your parent(s), sibling(s), friend(s) and give them the gift of feeling valued. My daughter calls me every few days and starts the conversation with, “I have (ten) minutes to talk.” I cherish my short talks with my first born.
We are all here on extended visas; tell the people love that you love them often! A five minute phone call says, “I care about you!” to someone. Take time to care; we are all on extended visas!
