#22 COMPLAINING IS ONE OF THE EGO’S FAVORITE STRATEGIES FOR STRENGTHENING ITSELF.

Let’s say that all of life is an energy field, some things attract and some things repel. Prayers attract love to a situation. Fear attracts negative energy. Anger attracts negative energy. Holding a grudge, making a judgment, hating someone attracts negative energy.

Maybe the miracle in a healing is that prayers surround the “wound,” allowing it to heal. In many religions, it is thought that God is able to get through to heal the “wound.”

In the case of incessant complaining, negative energy surrounds you so a positive or healing energy can’t get through. I was taught, “Do something about it or drop it!” If I’m having trouble dropping something, I imagine a red helium balloon in front of me, put the situation into that balloon and say,”I give this problem to you God, to be released and dissolved.” Then I release the balloon. I might repeat that exercise dozens of times.

Constant complaining pushes other people away. There is nothing more frustrating than to give someone who is complaining a solution idea and have it, or any idea for solution, ignored. At some point, you stop listening, at some point you stop feeling, at some point you detach yourself from that person.

The ego is the part of us that steers us away from our true nature, our goodness. Complaining strengthens its ability to capture our thoughts, influence our actions. Everything comes to us to teach us something. If we embrace the challenge, we have more strength to go through it. My father taught me,”I was unhappy because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.” Life isn’t easy! Incessant complaining makes it harder.
