At almost 82 years old (can you believe it?) I will tell you a very simple yet insanely difficult concept to remember: SOME PEOPLE CAN SEE YOU, SOME CANNOT! I’m not talking about aliens here, I’m talking about, due to a person’s past experience, they are able or not able to view you as you are.
My grandchicks have been told year after year, when they go to school or do something new, “Remember, there are people who can’t see you for who you are, and that’s not about you!” That last idea is a challenging one as well. Someone has a total melt down over something and suddenly you are the target of their anger. That’s not about you. See Sandy’s Wisdom #59—you didn’t make them angry, they chose to be angry.
Trying to get everyone to like you or trying to get a family member with whom you become bumping cars, to understand you is useless. When a person can’t see who you really are, they move to criticism. That’s not about you…..get it?
You may need to go on a scavenger hunt to find people who relate to you and visa versa, and what I want you to hear is that friendships don’t mesh unless both people can see each other. Keep looking, it’s worth the hunt!
Please share with friends and family!
