In a class I was teaching, I suggested that one needs to try every day to do something for someone who can never repay you. The class went into major overwhelm, so I asked, “What things might you do to fulfill this requirement? Feed a homeless person, sponsor a child, take a complete meal to a family or an older couple.
I told the class their suggestions would all work, and what is something every single person could give each day to fulfill my request. It took some weeding out, so I asked what every person needs? Answer: To feel valued and appreciated. By noticing someone (talking to a stranger in the market), by listening to someone who is talking, you give the messaged that their life matters.
Life is the question, LOVE is the answer! There are so many ways to give love to other people. And the gift of listening, the gift of caring, the gift valuing someone, the gift of appreciating–even the tiniest part of someone—are gifts for which the receiver can never repay you.
Give the gift of connection this holiday season; let someone know that they are not invisible.
Please share with family and friends.
