It was one of those trying to catch up with your list kinda days, and I was late getting things together for a monthly group Christmas meeting. My appetizer made, white elephant gift wrapped, I charged off into the night.
Because the appetizer was hot, I put it on a folded over towel on the car seat. The first (not the fifth or seventh, the first) major turn (I remind you I was driving fast,) the appetizer slid off the towel onto the dark floor. It was after dark here in Idaho.
I was afraid to try to pick it up with one hand, thinking I would then dump whatever was left in the container on the floor. So I just drove to the party. When I got there, the house was dark and there were no cars. The party had been cancelled due to illness and I had been too busy that day to see the email!
“Wow! That’s different!” I exclaimed. It’s my favorite phrase when something doesn’t go the way I expected it to go. The appetizer had not spilled out of it’s container, so I focused on that blessing and went home to rest.
You are always at choice as to how you behave when something happens that is different from what you thought would happen. Getting angry wouldn’t have changed anything. If making an appetizer that no one will eat is my biggest problem, then I am truly blessed.
As my grandmother used to say, “Don’t make mountains out of molehills!”
