(8) YOU ARE ENOUGH JUST THE WAY YOU ARE NOW.
I suffered from feeling that I was never enough. Endless criticism from my mother helped to chisel that feeling into my thinking and heart. Never being able to please is disheartening to a child, and can ignite stuffed feelings of anger—never mind destroying one’s self-esteem. Also, I felt that I was different from the my peers.
Our standards in society invite us to measure ourselves against other people. You have been given a gift from God because you are the only you there will ever be! An original! More valuable than any antique! To compare yourself with someone else denies the gift. It’s also impossible for an original to compare itself with an original!
Despite all the pressures around you to be something else, listen to yourself. Follow your heart. If you are an orange, be an orange—at best you could only be a second rate banana! Some people will see you for you—some will distort you through their own distorted perceptions—look for people who get you! If you’re thinking, “No one does!” check to see if you’re living the real you or a fearful version of you. Authentic people find each other.
Have you ever worked one of those ten thousand pieces puzzles? Days later, you finish it, and one piece is missing. You can see what the puzzle is! You spent hours working on it! And it just isn’t right without that one piece; that’s the way the world would be without you!
