I moved to Idaho, had open heart surgery and down the road, turned 81. In the middle, I suffered some depression, feeling I had lost my purpose and was invisible. Prior to this, I had a “spotlight” life as a professional speaker, author and columnist.
I decided that my new mission was to touch as many lives as possible with God’s and my love. My naturally gregarious personality had no difficulty reaching out to every person I saw each day. Life became an endless series of wonderful stories: I got to the Axiom door at the exact time a handsome young man did, so I stopped short of the door so he could open it for me. “That worked out perfectly!” I flashed my dimples and smiled at him. “I would’ve waited and held it for you,” he responded. I turned looking at him, “It is only fun when the fellow is a prince!” He laughed, “At your service my lady!” Turns out he was a prince disguised at an Axiom trainer!
I was talking to one of the girls who works in Jarvis dental office, telling her I was considering writing a book about how afraid we are to love each other. I told her my mission was to love every single person who passes my way. Just then another patient came out so I turned and said, “Good morning!” to him. The girl behind the counter asked, “Is this where you tell him you love him?” I wasn’t as un-comfortable as you might think as I stood there trying to decide what to say next. The man spoke first, “She just did by noticing me!” We hugged and exchanged names. I smiled at the girl, “Love is magical!”
Every person needs to feel lovable and capable, and the bridge to that is to feel noticed! It costs nothing to verbally notice someone; change the world today with your splash of kindness!
